Road debris can be very dangerous

Many people utilize the roadways around Ukiah every single day. Drivers can reasonably expect these roads to be well-maintained and clear of any debris at all times.

Unfortunately, things don’t always work out this way. Road debris is responsible for thousands of accidents every year, many of which are fatal.

What is meant by road debris and why is it so dangerous?

Unsecured cargo

As well as cars making their way to work, the roads are also filled with commercial trucks, which take goods to different locations. If due care has not been taken when loading the cargo onto such vehicles, then it can become loose and even fly off of the truck.

If a piece of cargo ends up sitting on the road, then it becomes road debris. Any driver who runs into this is likely to be hurt and potentially fatally wounded.

Broken vehicle components

Vehicles travel at a considerable speed, which is part of the reason they should always be well maintained. Unfortunately, some individuals don’t pay as much attention to this as they should.

The rattling and pressure placed on various vehicle components can make them become loose, particularly if they are poorly maintained. For instance, a faulty exhaust may drop off and lie in the middle of the road. Again, if a fast-moving vehicle runs into this, it’s possible that a very nasty crash will occur.

All road users owe a duty of care to their counterparts. If someone has failed in this duty and you’ve been seriously hurt, you could be entitled to legal compensation. Seeking guidance on the matter is one of the best ways to gain a clearer picture of your rights.
